An example of French provincial lounge furniture showing an antique lounge and matching louis XVI coffee in an antiqued painted finish with parcel gilding. These beautiful items are all hand carved with ribbon carving around the framework, finely hand fluted legs and delicate acanthus leaf decoration. All typical of this sought after French style dating from the late 18th century. The Louis XVI style was new and more contemporary that the previous Louis XV style. It was more plain with less of the elaborate carvings and cabriole legs of the previous period. It was straighter in form, rather than the intricate curved and serpentine shapes of the Louis XIV and XV periods. It was thought to be modern and trendy by comparison.
This Louis XVI Sofa also comes in a three seater with matching single seat chairs.
