French Sofa Chair

A stunning French bergere chair with cameo back, delicately carved in very fine detail with floral and vine motifs. This example has been finish in genuine silver leaf gilding with an aged antique patina. There are many French armchair styles, but this one has particular beauty. In fact, French furniture has a unique beauty all of its’ own.

This Style of French sofa chair is of the louis XVI period C. 1770. It is upholstered with a traditional, fully coil sprung seat. Quite often we upholster this Louis chair with double diamond buttoned upholstery inside the arms & outside also.

This Louis XVI chair is particularly comfortable and of course, as with all our furniture it is completely hand-made from solid mahogany. And the extremely delicate and intricate carving is all hand done also.

French Bergere Chair Finishes

There are many different ways of finishing these chairs. Mostly they are done with genuine gold leaf gilding. But we have done many for clients, in antiqued painted finishes with gold leaf highlights to some of the carvings. But they look just as amazing in a simple walnut, stained timber finish. There are many options when it comes to upholstery also. Sprung seat, separate cushion seat, diamond tufted or plain upholstery, and many other options to choose from.
