French Provincial Armchair
A french provincial armchair of beautiful proportions, with e delicate ribbon carved frame. This French chair is typical of the Louis XVI style, having a more modernised or contemporary appearance to the Louis XV chairs of the previous period. Louis XV period evolved from the curved & heavily carved furniture into the Louis XVI period that was more simple and more in its’ design. The legs were turned and fluted rather than the previous carved and carved cabriole leg designs. There are many antique French chair styles, or bergere chair as they are also known, but this is one of the more popular.
This is a lovely French armchair shown here in a fully gilded gold leaf finish & upholstered in pure silk with feather and foam seat cushion. They are fully handmade and hand carved from solid kiln dried mahogany timber. The upholstery is of traditional interwoven sisal webbing in the base, coil sprung seats or even choices of feather and foam cushions or full down cushions for the ultimate in comfort.
